Sustainability revolution will come from ’consumer demand’

The sustainability revolution will only emerge when consumers demand energy efficient homes, it has been claimed.

Using green sink accessories may help this shift in attitude, though rising fuel bills could also play a key role in prompting people to look at green options, according to a spokesman from Sustainable Homes.

Andrew Eagles, managing director at the company, said: "The real change is going to happen when house buyers and renters start saying, 'Actually, I'll be looking at a fuel bill of potentially £2,000 by 2020. I want an A-rated home to rent or I want a code level 5 home to live in.'"

Mr Eagles also stated that regulation creates the platform for the sustainability of British homes to increase.

This month, energy and climate change secretary Chris Huhne confirmed proposals to guarantee that all landlords must adhere to energy efficient standards as part of the Green Deal.ADNFCR-1321-ID-800554524-ADNFCR
