Written by Rachel Jones Venice has launched an initiative to lead people to drink more water from their kitchen taps, instead of relying on the bottled variety, it has been reported. The New York Times said that Italians are the biggest buyers of bottled water and quite often shun their kitchen taps. But officials have become concerned about the rise in plastic bottle pollution and the country's green footprint and have turned tap water in Venice into a brand to encourage Italians to use their kitchen taps more often. Riccardo Seccarello, a city official, told the newspaper: "Tap water doesn’t require a bottle. Its quality is controlled more strictly than bottled water. It’s really cheap. And you don’t have to walk to a market to get it." To make tap water taste better, individuals can install tap filters to their kitchen taps.
