Kirsten McElwaine, owner of Kirsten's Kitchens in the US, told Kitchen and Bath Design News that colour, texture and proportion all contribute to the dynamism of a kitchen countertop, but that they should also have something unusual. "Whether it's mixing and matching the unexpected, taking a countertop material and using it in a different application or adding a unique edge treatment, the best countertop projects are often the ones that bring something different to the table," added the news provider. However, it was also noted that in addition to wanting something stylish and aesthetically pleasing, kitchen owners also require functional and sturdy work surfaces in their kitchen sink and food preparation areas. Last week, Margaret Morgan, a design writer for Newsroom Jersey, said that homeowners should reflect on their "memories and travels" to gain inspiration for their kitchen designs.  |
